Dr Arani Nitkunan

Dr Arani Nitkunan is a dedicated Consultant Neurologist who provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care for patients experiencing a wide range of neurological conditions. Emphasising a patient-centred and compassionate approach, she works alongside multidisciplinary clinical teams to deliver thorough assessments and tailored management plans. Dr Nitkunan manages both urgent neurological presentations and long-term conditions, ensuring that patients feel supported and well-informed at every stage of their treatment.

Dr Nitkunan completed her medical studies at Newnham College, University of Cambridge and the University of London, qualifying in 1999. Demonstrating a strong commitment to academic medicine and clinical advancement, she was awarded a PhD in 2007 for her research into stroke. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and an active member of the Association of British Neurologists, where she holds national leadership roles on key clinical committees.

Her clinical practice encompasses general neurology, acute neurology, stroke, and neuro-ophthalmology. She has a particular clinical interest in the diagnosis and ongoing management of conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, functional neurological disorder, and headaches. Passionate about service innovation, Dr Nitkunan has led local and regional initiatives to enhance acute neurology pathways and develop specialised nurse-led clinics, ensuring that patients receive timely, high-quality care.
