Dr Anne Burdess

Dr Anne Burdess is a highly skilled Consultant Vascular Surgeon who specialises in the comprehensive management of blood vessel disorders throughout the body. With a clinical focus on both traditional open surgery and advanced minimally invasive endovascular techniques, she provides life-saving interventions for complex cardiovascular conditions. Her clinical interests include complex aortic aneurysm repairs, carotid artery surgery to prevent strokes, and lower limb bypass procedures to restore blood supply and improve mobility. Dr Burdess is dedicated to delivering patient-centred, reassuring care, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes from initial assessment through to post-operative care.

Dr Burdess qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2000, graduating with honours in Physiology alongside her medical degree. She completed her formal surgical training on the South East of Scotland Basic and Higher surgical rotations. Driven by a passion for clinical innovation, she established a collaborative research pathway between surgical and cardiovascular science departments, which culminated in the award of her PhD. Dr Burdess further refined her expertise through a specialist endovascular fellowship in Dundee and a prestigious international complex aortic fellowship at a university hospital in Sweden. Her research interests continue to focus on cardiovascular risk management, aortic strategies, and patient outcomes.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Burdess is actively involved in medical education and professional development. She contributes to the wider medical community through her work with the European Vascular Society, where she plays an increasing role in teaching workshops and developing examination pathways. Her commitment to training future Consultant Surgeons ensures that the highest standards of vascular care are maintained. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly surfing and mountain activities.
