Dr Anku Mehta

Dr Mehta was certainly professional and clear and gave me the time beforehand to chat through the procedure and debriefed me immediately after the operation as I was coming around. This was helpful but hard to retain as was drowsy and dehydrated so made it hard to talk. Now a few days post op, it would be valuable to get a follow up call from any of the surgical team involved to go through what the surgery entailed/how it went and how things might feel now in my abdomen as recovery gets underway. I am in more of a position to take notes and ask more coherent questions with the post op abdomen feeling. With this sort of surgery a lot is pointed to aftercare and healing. This follow through really falls down, not helped by the surgery taking place on a Friday evening which means reduced resources at the weekend including physio. This certainly heightened my anxiety and vulnerability. A hands on demonstration of walking/getting in and out of the hospital bed / bending etc… is what is needed so you are not second guessing and can be independent and confident within reason as soon as possible. Clinical teams knowledge and support (including empathy) was variable which I believe is all part of the procedure and care.

I was having quite a big operation ( for me) and was very anxious but Dr Mehta explained things clearly beforehand I woke feeling much better than I had anticipated. The operation seems to have gone smoothly and issue free with it just left for me to recover. The care from the team on the ward at Watford hospital has been great. As it was the weekend different consultants explained the after effects of the operation to me from Dr Mehta's notes and everyone has tried my best to answer my questions really well. Thank you to all involved.

Dr. Mehta was highly engaging, compassionate, and supportive throughout the consultation. She listened carefully and demonstrated a clear understanding of the current situation I am experiencing. She explained everything thoroughly and in a way that was easy to understand, which provided reassurance and clarity regarding the next steps of my treatment, including what may happen moving forward and expected timelines. Additional support options were also discussed in relation to my current circumstances. We further spoke about ongoing women’s health needs and advocacy work within women’s health, which Dr. Mehta is actively campaigning for, and I expressed my support in this area. Overall, I found Dr. Mehta to be extremely kind, reassuring, and professional throughout the appointment.
