Are you Andy Bird?
Andy Bird is a psychotherapist who has been working in the field since 1996 across a variety of treatment settings and with diverse client groups. He began his career in several addiction treatment facilities in London, providing both group sessions and one-to-one counselling. His early work included roles at the Priory Hospital, the RAPT programme at Wandsworth Prison, Thurston House Men’s residential rehab, the Redcliffe project, and the SHARP daycare programme.
Since joining Nightingale Hospital in 2000, Andy has gained extensive experience working on addiction and eating disorder programmes, managing a broad range of cases that include depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, love and sex addiction, as well as issues with shame, self-esteem, and relationships.
In addition to his clinical work, Andy has served as a counsellor-trainer on various professional training programmes. He believes that many behaviors and beliefs that lead people to seek help were once useful coping mechanisms that no longer serve them. Through open dialogue, gentle challenge, and humour, he helps his clients explore more meaningful ways to live and make sense of their lives.
Andy tailors his therapy to each client, drawing on a humanistic approach combined with his personal experiences and reflections. He also uses cognitive behavioural techniques to help clients understand their situations and find effective solutions. His main areas of expertise include addressing issues related to shame and self-esteem, relationship problems, and compulsive disorders such as substance abuse, eating disorders, and relational addictions.
