Mrs Bola Shonubi is a psychodynamic psychotherapist and clinical supervisor with over 20 years' clinical experience, including time in the NHS, charity sector and 11 years running her own private practice in Buckhurst Hill, Essex. Mrs Shonubi now offers sessions one day a week at 10 Harley Street, London.
Mrs Shonubi offers a confidential, considered space — no quick fixes, but real clinical depth. New clients can usually be seen withon a week.
Mrs. Shonubi has a particular interest in the emotional lives of high-achieving individuals and the complex relationship between achievement, identity, visibility, and emotional wellbeing. Her work explores how early experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns can influence the way people relate to themselves, others, and success itself.
Her approach is psychodynamic, meaning that therapy is not solely focused on managing symptoms but on developing a deeper understanding of the underlying emotional and relational processes that may contribute to them. She believes that lasting psychological change often comes through greater self-awareness, reflection, and the experience of being thoughtfully understood within a safe therapeutic relationship.
Alongside her private practice, Mrs Shonubi has worked within NHS and specialist mental health services, supporting individuals presenting with complex trauma, attachment difficulties, chronic anxiety, suicidal ideation, and longstanding emotional challenges. She is experienced in working with psychological complexity and understands the importance of providing a containing and professionally grounded therapeutic space.
Mrs. Shonubi holds an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy and has undertaken additional training in couples psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and clinical supervision. She also provides supervision to other therapists and has contributed to wider conversations on mental health through media, educational, and interdisciplinary projects.
She offers therapy both in person from her consulting rooms in Buckhurst Hill, Harley Street and online, supporting clients throughout the UK and internationally.

When I began therapy, I was on a difficult journey back to myself and Bola has been there to guide and support every step of the way. I've grown into myself more in these past two years than I have in my entire life thanks to Bola's fearlessness to travel to places I once thought scary, her readiness and directness in calling attention to things I couldn't yet see and her ability to balance a wealth of skill and knowledge with genuine compassion and kindness.
Felt comfortable during the session and felt fulfilling when I left
I’ve had a really positive experience with Dr Bola and enjoy attending my sessions. She’s created a really safe space where I feel like I can talk to her about anything without any judgement. I’ve started to notice real progress in my self esteem in day to day life, which I’m really grateful for. I would highly recommend Dr Bola to anyone looking for a supportive and professional therapist.
My experience was very good how I was made to feel relaxed and heard
I worked with Bola for a number of years and can honestly say it transformed my life. A regular part of our sessions was that I'd say thank you, and Bola would say, "no need to thank me. You're doing the work", but up until the time I started seeing Bola I had no idea where to begin. I wanted things to change and improve but I didn't know how. I had never had a therapy session before and the idea of starting was daunting. From the first session where Bola told me she thought she could help me, to a very tearful goodbye (from my side) years later, our sessions became a key part of my week. Bola supported and guided me in making small incremental changes in the way I approached relationships, family and myself, until I felt huge shifts. I opened doors I didn't know I was afraid to open and found peace with things that had played on my mind and on my feelings for years. At some points this involved asking myself painful questions or confronting the answers I already had but didn't want to accept. I left some sessions crying, some laughing, some pensive and some angry. Not because of Bola but because she was slowly teaching me to identify my emotions and go through them, not around them. I truly felt supported every step of the way. Bola created the one space in my life at the time where I felt I could be truly honest without fear of judgement. It was an environment that felt like a small 50 minute cut away each week where I could really let my guard down. I learned to set better boundaries with myself and others, and to identify how I was truly feeling and work through i...
