Mr Andrew Cattell is a well experienced Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in Knee Surgery at The Woodlands Hospital. He has particular expertise in sports-related knee injuries and knee replacement surgery. He also has specialist expertise in ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery, patellofemoral surgery, as well as partial and total knee replacement procedures and robotic knee surgery.
Mr Cattell completed his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa in 1999 followed by training in trauma and orthopaedics in South Africa. Subsequently, he pursued postgraduate training in the United Kingdom, mainly in the Oswestry rotation in 2011. During this period, he developed a keen interest in sports knee surgery and knee replacement surgery.
Earning fellowship status with the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016, Mr Cattell went on to complete a complex trauma fellowship in Nottingham in 2017. Following this, he secured fellowship positions in sports knee and knee replacement surgery at Wrightington Hospital and Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (Exeter).
In addition to his medical qualifications, Mr Cattell holds a Master's degree in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University, with a dissertation focused on evaluating the development of a novel knee replacement.
Joining James Cook University Hospital in 2019, Mr Cattell maintains a bustling NHS practice, overseeing major orthopaedic trauma and an elective practice concentrated on addressing knee-related concerns.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Cattell serves as the educational lead for the James Cook Hospital orthopaedic department. He also serves as the clinical supervisor for several registrars and actively participates in teaching both locally and on national specialist orthopaedic exam courses.

Was brilliant when it came to explaining the exact details of the procedure and the things to expect during recovery, and any risks that were associated with the operation and how to spot problems before they arise. Overall was just top notch and fantastic through the process.
