Dr Ahmed Abbas

Dr Ahmed Abbas is a highly accomplished Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist and Consultant Neurologist. He is one of only a select few Consultants in the United Kingdom to hold dual accreditation in both of these closely related fields. His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of neuromuscular disorders, with a particular subspecialist focus on the diagnosis and management of peripheral nerve diseases and sensory ataxia. Dr Abbas is dedicated to providing precise diagnostic evaluations and compassionate, patient-centred care to individuals experiencing complex neurological symptoms.

Dr Abbas qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Medical Sciences and Technology in 2008. He subsequently completed his specialist training in Neurology at a major teaching hospital in London, which included a prestigious Neuromuscular Clinical Fellowship. To further his expertise, he undertook specialist training in Neurophysiology at a leading hospital in Birmingham and completed a competitively funded European Association of Neurology Clinical Fellowship in the Netherlands, where he trained as a Specialist in peripheral nerve ultrasound. In addition to his clinical qualifications, he holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Dr Abbas is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and maintains active membership in several professional bodies, including the Association of British Neurology, the British Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, the British Peripheral Nerve Society, and the British Myology Society.

In his daily practice, Dr Abbas utilises advanced diagnostic techniques to investigate and manage a wide range of conditions, including chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, motor neuron disease, myasthenia gravis, and Parkinson's disease. He is highly skilled in performing and interpreting nerve conduction studies, electromyography, and peripheral nerve ultrasound. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Abbas is actively involved in clinical research and medical education. His research contributions, particularly in atypical sensory presentations and diagnostic approaches to small fibre neuropathy, have been published in peer-reviewed journals and recognised with several national and regional awards.
