Dr Aafje Warris

Dr Aafje Warris is an esteemed Consultant Paediatrician specialising in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Medical Mycology. She dedicates her clinical practice to providing highly specialised, compassionate, and reassuring care for children and young people facing complex infectious diseases. Her work is particularly focused on managing serious fungal infections in infants, children, and young patients who may be immunocompromised, ensuring that each patient receives personalised and evidence-informed care.

Dr Warris completed her medical degree (MD) at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 1994, before earning a PhD in Medical Science from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2004. Demonstrating a long-standing commitment to professional excellence and international clinical standards, she was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2014, Fellowship of the European Council Medical Mycology in 2018, and Fellowship of the American Academy of Microbiology in 2025. In addition to her clinical practice, she holds prominent leadership roles across major medical organisations, including serving as President-Elect of the European Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Chair of the European Paediatric Mycology Network.

Her areas of clinical expertise encompass the diagnosis and treatment of invasive fungal diseases, paediatric antifungal pharmacology, host-fungus interactions, and fungal epidemiology. Dr Warris possesses extensive experience managing complex fungal conditions, such as Aspergillus infections in children with underlying conditions including chronic granulomatous disease and cystic fibrosis. Through her dedication to advances in paediatric antifungal therapies and international clinical networks, Dr Warris ensures her young patients receive the highest standard of specialised care tailored to their individual medical needs.
