I trained in the Edinburgh Dental Hospital and School and worked in the hospital for four years as a dental surgeon and research fellow and registrar dentist. During this time I treated referred admissions for oral disease and undertook treatment and investigations for these patients. A large part of my research thesis included immunological laboratory work, examining the immunity of patients pre-disposed to oral cancer.

Remaining part-time in the dental hospital, I started work in general dental practice in Polwarth and Loanhead before setting up a new practice in Fairmilehead in 1993.

It was only by setting up my own dental practice that I was able to establish the best standard of care I could deliver during my professional life.

Since then I have dedicated myself to delivering my very best dental care and have surrounded myself with staff whom I have trained to help me achieve that goal. I value enormously the fact that they have followed my vision and worked loyally alongside me.

I expanded the practice to our new location at 6 Oxgangs Road in 2003. The new building allowed us to meet the best standards of current dental care and to offer greater dental education and hygiene for the maintenance of my patients’ dental health.

My post-graduate education and training has been, and continues to be, extensive and allows me to offer my patients the full range of dental treatment options currently available. I now play an active role in the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in promoting high standards of clinical care for dental surgeons in general dental practice.

My special interests are focused on implant and natural tooth restorative harmony. I use the technological advances in implant co-axis design to minimise the surgical trauma for my patients and maximize the outcome.

As the Clinical Director, I work with an amazing team who can provide the very best care in dentistry. I regard all our patients as members of our family and know that all of my staff do their very best to provide the highest standard of dentistry and care available.

What is dentistry?

Dentists are certifiably trained to treat the teeth and gums. It is a field of medicine that incorporates the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and conditions of the oral cavity. If you are in requirement of a dentist and are looking for the top-rated dentists in London, then Doctify can help. Whether you have an issue with your teeth that causes constant pain, you are looking to address something more cosmetic, or you are looking for an emergency dentist in a hospital in London, there will be a course of treatment available for you. Do not hold off your dental requirement any longer, find a dental specialist in London today with Doctify.

When to see a Dentist?

Many people suffer in silence when it comes to treating their teeth or gums. Problems with your teeth or gums can come in many forms, from tooth decay through to gum disease or gingivitis. Some of these, if not addressed at an early stage, can lead to much bigger issues later down the line. Choose from the best dentists in London with Doctify to address your issue, assess the condition of your teeth and gums and propose the best course of treatment. By doing this, you will be assured that you are proactively preventing further damage.

How much does a private dentist cost?

The cost of private dental treatments varies from dentist to dentist in the UK. There are several factors which determine the cost of private dentists including the location such as regional or large cities and the type of treatment you are receiving. Most private dental practices are transparent with their pricing, with many making their fees available on their website. Alternatively, you can contact your dentist for more information around their pricing.

How to find a private dentist?

You can use Doctify to find a private dentist who is recommended by other patients. Drawing on reviews from real patients, ratings of their experience are available for you to read. When patients book with Doctify they are invited to leave a review to share their experience and help other users make an informed decision.

What does a dentist do?

Dentists aid us with our oral health. Common treatments include hygiene appointments, repair of cavities and teeth fractures, fitting crowns and dentures as well as providing preventative treatments to support the long-term health of our teeth and gums.

How to find the best private dentist in my area?

Using Doctify you can find the best private dentists that are local to you. Using real patient reviews you can see ratings for the private dentists in your area and assess their suitability for your individual needs. These ratings are drawn from reviews provided by patients who use Doctify, as they are invited to rate their experience after every booking.

How often should you visit the dentist?

It is recommended to visit your dentist every 6 months for routine checkups. Sometimes, if you have excellent oral health, your dentist may recommend a visit every 12 months. Of course, if you are experiencing pain in your teeth or swollen or bleeding gums, you should visit your dentist as soon as possible.

How to book a same-day private dentist appointment?

If you are experiencing pain or need to see a private dentist urgently due to an injury or problem it may be possible to obtain a same-day dentist appointment. You can use Doctify to search through a number of private dentists to find a suitable appointment.

What is the difference between a dentist and an orthodontist?

Dentists and orthodontists both work with oral health. Dentists work more generally with mouth health covering everything from maintaining good oral health to repairs, including teeth, gums and nerves. Orthodontists are a specialised area within dental practice, with a focus on straightening teeth, correcting bites and occlusion.

How do you find a good cosmetic dentist?

You can use the ratings and review system on Doctify to find the best cosmetic dentist for you. Some tips for selecting a good cosmetic dentist include reading reviews, looking at the dentist’s qualifications and experience, review before and after cases and take advantage of free consultations where possible.

How do I get an emergency dentist appointment?

Most private dentist clinics offer emergency appointments for necessary cases. You can search for emergency appointments on Doctify to find an available dentist. Emergency appointments can cover concerns such as toothache, abscess, swelling, root canal, injury or mouth trauma, loose or lost crowns and damaged dentures.
