Dr Steven Frederiksen

Dr Steven Frederiksen is a highly qualified Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in surgery of the upper limb. He provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing acute and chronic conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. With a patient-centred approach, Dr Frederiksen focuses on restoring function, relieving pain, and helping individuals regain mobility and strength. His clinical practice encompasses a wide range of treatments, from non-operative management and rehabilitation to complex reconstructive surgeries.

Dr Frederiksen has a strong interest in managing active patients across all levels, including professional athletes. He is dedicated to the treatment of complex upper limb trauma and the reconstruction of severely injured limbs. In his practice, he prioritises collaborative decision-making, often exploring non-operative pathways such as activity modification, targeted physiotherapy, and joint injections before recommending surgical intervention. When surgery is required, he utilises advanced techniques to optimise joint mechanics and support long-term rehabilitation.

Prior to focusing entirely on his orthopaedic practice, Dr Frederiksen served as a Medical Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, participating in humanitarian assistance and overseas deployments. Following his military service, he undertook extensive specialist training in orthopaedic surgery, with a particular focus on the upper limb. He has held leadership roles, including serving as a Director of Orthopaedics, where he supervised Orthopaedic Registrars and managed departmental operations. He also completed a prestigious twelve-month post-fellowship training programme in hand and upper limb surgery, which included advanced training in microvascular and peripheral nerve surgery.

Dr Frederiksen graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Queensland in 1997. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in 2009, earning a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA). Dr Frederiksen maintains active professional memberships with several prestigious organisations, including the Australian Medical Association, the Queensland Shoulder Society, the Queensland Hand Surgery Society, and the New Zealand Society for Surgery of the Hand.
