Dr Renuka Bathija

Dr Renuka Bathija is a highly regarded Consultant Ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive, patient-centred eye care. With a dedicated sub-speciality interest in glaucoma, she focuses on the early diagnosis as well as the medical and surgical management of this complex condition. Dr Bathija is committed to delivering personalised treatment plans that help preserve her patients' vision and enhance their overall quality of life. Her clinical expertise also extends to general Ophthalmology, including the management of cataracts and refractive errors such as astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia.

Dr Bathija completed her specialist Ophthalmology training at the University of Melbourne before pursuing advanced training abroad. She completed a prestigious glaucoma fellowship at a renowned eye centre in California. As a certified Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study Investigator, she has made significant contributions to ophthalmic research, particularly in the development and early application of advanced optic nerve imaging technologies. Notably, her research in scanning laser tomography led to the naming of the 'Bathija Factor' in clinical reports. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

In addition to her private consulting work, Dr Bathija holds a Consultant position within the glaucoma unit of a major public eye and ear hospital in Melbourne. In this role, she is actively involved in teaching and mentoring Registrars, Medical Students, and Optometrists. Her dedication to eye health extends beyond her local community; she has gained extensive international experience working in the United States and India, and has volunteered her skills with humanitarian eye care initiatives. Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys active outdoor pursuits, including long coastal and beach walks.
