Dr Nicholas O'Rourke

Dr Nicholas O'Rourke is a highly regarded General Surgeon who specialises in advanced laparoscopic and hepatobiliary surgery. With a patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for complex conditions of the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. Dr O'Rourke is widely recognised for his expertise in minimally invasive techniques, offering patients advanced surgical options that aim to reduce recovery times and improve clinical outcomes. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of general surgical procedures, ensuring that each patient receives a tailored treatment plan suited to their individual needs.

In addition to his focus on hepatobiliary surgery, Dr O'Rourke has a strong clinical interest in bariatric (obesity) surgery, laparoscopic hernia repairs, and cholecystectomies. He is also highly skilled in performing laparoscopic procedures for acute abdominal conditions, spleen surgery, laparoscopic banding, and thoracoscopic sympathectomy. Dr O'Rourke obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held several prominent leadership roles, including serving as President of the Australia and New Zealand Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (ANZHPBA) and as the Secretary General of the International Laparoscopic Liver Society (ILLS). He is also actively involved in international medical organisations, including the International HPB Association (IHPBA) Foundation and the Asian Laparoscopic Liver Society, and represents Australia in the Asian Chapter of the International Society of Fluorescent Guided Surgery (ISFGS).
