Dr Ramesh Iyer

Dr Ramesh Iyer is a specialist surgeon in Queensland with a focus on oncoplastic breast surgery, endocrine surgery and general surgery. His breast practice includes surgery for breast cancer, mastectomy, oncoplastic mammoplasty techniques and implant-based reconstruction, while his endocrine work includes thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Dr Iyer completed postgraduate surgical training in India, where he received a gold medal in the Mumbai University fellowship examination in general surgery in 1996. After working as a general surgeon internationally, he continued his career in Australia and attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008.

His current work also includes a broad range of general surgical procedures, such as laparoscopic hernia repair, complex abdominal wall hernia surgery, laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and bowel surgery. Dr Iyer is the designated surgeon for BreastScreen Ipswich and is involved in breast cancer research and clinical trials. He also contributes to medical education as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and Academic Supervisor in Surgery for Ipswich Clinical School.
