Dr Nicholas Cheng

Dr Nicholas Cheng is a highly qualified and experienced Retinal Specialist, Cataract Surgeon, and General Ophthalmologist. He specialises in the comprehensive management of a wide spectrum of eye conditions, with a particular focus on medical retina and uveitis. Dr Cheng is dedicated to providing patient-centred care, ensuring that individuals fully understand their diagnoses and the treatment pathways available to them. His reassuring and approachable manner helps patients feel at ease throughout their clinical journey.

Dr Cheng completed his medical training at the University of Melbourne, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery alongside a Bachelor of Medical Science. He furthered his academic pursuits by obtaining a Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmic Science from the University of Sydney. During his specialist training, he was awarded the prestigious Filipic Greer Medal by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists for achieving the highest national mark in the ophthalmic pathology examination. Dr Cheng is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

To refine his clinical expertise, Dr Cheng undertook a sub-specialty Medical Retina and Uveitis Fellowship at a leading eye and ear hospital in Melbourne. He then travelled to the United Kingdom to complete a General Ophthalmology Fellowship at a prominent hospital trust, gaining extensive experience in managing complex cataract cases. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Cheng has contributed to the advancement of his field as an Honorary Fellow at a major eye research centre, where he participated in research into novel treatments for retinal diseases. He also holds public hospital appointments and is actively involved in training future Ophthalmologists.
