Dr Merrett completed his primary medical degree, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Monash University in 1982. Following his specialist training in gastroenterology in Melbourne, he was awarded the prestigious PHH Travelling Scholarship. This opportunity enabled him to undertake advanced training and clinical research within the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), reflecting his adherence to the highest standards of clinical excellence.
