Dr Keith Towsey

Dr Keith Towsey is a highly accomplished General Surgeon who provides a comprehensive range of surgical services. With a dedicated focus on patient-centred care, he has developed a strong clinical interest in complex abdominal wall hernias, burns, surgical oncology, and colorectal surgery. Dr Towsey is committed to delivering evidence-based treatments, utilising both open and laparoscopic techniques to ensure optimal outcomes and a smooth recovery for his patients. His clinical practice encompasses a broad spectrum of procedures, including colonoscopy, endoscopy, and laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.

In addition to his civilian practice, Dr Towsey has a distinguished background as a military and humanitarian medical professional. He served as a Medical Officer in the regular army before transitioning to the Army Reserve to complete his specialist surgical training. His service has seen him deployed as a Trauma Surgeon and humanitarian responder to various international regions, including Afghanistan, Indonesia, Samoa, and Papua New Guinea. This extensive experience in high-pressure environments has refined his expertise in trauma care and complex reconstructive procedures, particularly in pioneering advanced techniques for difficult abdominal wall reconstructions.

Dr Towsey completed his undergraduate medical education, graduating with a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours. He undertook his residency and subsequent specialist training in Queensland, achieving his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008. Following this, he completed post-fellowship training in burns and trauma in 2009, where he developed advanced skills in complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
