Dr John Gibbons

Dr John Gibbons is a highly regarded Consultant Gastroenterologist who is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care for patients with digestive health concerns. With a strong focus on quality outcomes, he is committed to utilising the latest advanced techniques and equipment to ensure the best possible results for those under his care. His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions, with a particular emphasis on therapeutic endoscopy and the management of luminal diseases.

Dr Gibbons completed his medical degree at The University of Queensland, graduating in 1988. He subsequently undertook his advanced physician training in Brisbane before pursuing specialised training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP) at a major teaching hospital in Sydney. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Dr Gibbons has also held significant leadership roles within the medical community, having served as a Director of Endoscopic Services and as an Executive Member of the Gastroenterology Society of Queensland. He holds Conjoint Committee recognition for endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures, as well as registration for capsule endoscopy.

In his daily practice, Dr Gibbons focuses on the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, alongside pancreatic and liver diseases. He possesses refined skills in interventional endoscopy, colonoscopy, and endomucosal resection, which allow him to manage specific pre-malignant conditions and early gastrointestinal malignancies without the need for invasive surgery. His patient-centred approach ensures that each individual receives a tailored treatment plan designed to optimise their long-term digestive health and well-being.
