Dr. Adrian Maher

Dr. Maher is an interventional gastroenterologist, specializing in both diagnostic and therapeutic interventional endoscopy, with a strong emphasis on high-quality screening procedures aimed at cancer prevention.

Adrian prides himself on delivering the highest level of care and support with clear communication, to empower each and every one of his patients during their treatment.

He can review urgent referrals within a week, and provide timely diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy at the Mater Private Hospital & Spring Hill Specialist Day Hospital.

Dr. Maher's academic journey began at Griffith University, where he completed a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Doctor of Medicine, earning both the University Medal and The Dean's Medallion as the Dux of Medicine. He continued his postgraduate education with a Master of Internal Medicine from The University of Sydney. His clinical training was conducted at Toowoomba and Greenslopes Hospitals, followed by specialist gastroenterology and hepatology training at Mater and Princess Alexandra Hospitals. Adding to his extensive training, Dr. Maher completed a two-year fellowship in interventional endoscopy at Princess Alexandra Hospital and an observership at Harvard Medical School, where he acquired advanced skills in endoscopic ultrasound techniques, including endoscopically guided liver biopsy and portal pressure gradients.

Dr. Maher brings a wealth of experience in managing complex hepatobiliary disorders, with ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. His expertise extends Barrett’s Oesophagus, intricate polypectomies, and endoscopic repairs of surgical complications

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Maher is a lecturer at the University of Queensland, where he contributes to medical education and research. He actively teaches medical students and training doctors and is a member of both the Gastroenterological Society of Queensland (GESQ) and Australia (GESA).

Dr. Maher consults at the Salmon Building offices of Mater Hill Gastroenterology and attends to inpatients at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, while also holding a public appointment at Mater Hospital Brisbane. He is the current chair of the Mater Private Hepatobiliary Multidisciplinary Team Meeting.
