He continued his postgraduate education with a Master of Internal Medicine from The University of Sydney. His clinical training was conducted at Toowoomba and Greenslopes Hospitals, followed by specialist gastroenterology and hepatology training at Mater and Princess Alexandra Hospitals. Adding to his extensive training, Dr. Maher completed a two-year fellowship in interventional endoscopy at Princess Alexandra Hospital and an observership at Harvard Medical School, where he acquired advanced skills in endoscopic ultrasound techniques, including endoscopically guided liver biopsy and portal pressure gradients.
Dr. Maher brings a wealth of experience in managing complex hepatobiliary disorders, with ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. His expertise extends Barrett’s Oesophagus, intricate polypectomies, and endoscopic repairs of surgical complications
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Maher is a lecturer at the University of Queensland, where he contributes to medical education and research. He actively teaches medical students and training doctors and is a member of both the Gastroenterological Society of Queensland (GESQ) and Australia (GESA).
Dr. Maher consults at the Salmon Building offices of Mater Hill Gastroenterology and attends to inpatients at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, while also holding a public appointment at Mater Hospital Brisbane.
