About Dr Johannes Wittmann

Dr Johannes Wittmann is a highly experienced gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a particular expertise in bowel cancer prevention, colonoscopy, and advanced interventional endoscopy. As one of the directors of Mater Hill Gastroenterology, he provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services across the full spectrum of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

Dr Wittmann graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1994 and was awarded a Master of Science in Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2009. He completed his specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology in Sydney from 2001 to 2002 and in London at University College London Hospitals from 2002 to 2004.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a senior national examination panel college examiner for the Australasian Adult Physician training clinical examination since 2011.

His clinical practice encompasses a broad range of advanced endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, endoluminal stenting, and small bowel capsule endoscopy, alongside general gastroenterology and hepatology consultations. He has a particular interest in screening colonoscopy, bowel cancer prevention, and screening for chronic liver disease with Fibroscan and managing chronic liver disease.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Wittmann is actively involved in peer education and professional development. He contributes to the ongoing training and support of endoscopy staff and regularly participates in national meetings, helping to maintain high standards of patient care within the specialty.
