Dr Harsh Kanhere

Dr Harsh Kanhere is a highly accomplished General Surgeon and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon based in Adelaide, South Australia. He serves as a Clinical Associate Professor and holds a prominent leadership position as the Head of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at a major tertiary hospital. Additionally, he works as a Senior Consultant Surgeon specialising in Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI) and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery. Dr Kanhere is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred care, combining his extensive clinical expertise with a compassionate approach to help patients navigate complex surgical journeys.

Dr Kanhere completed his initial General Surgical training in Pune, India, qualifying in 1999. He then pursued advanced sub-speciality training in cancer surgery, working as a Surgical Oncology Fellow at a premier cancer hospital in Mumbai in 2003, followed by a clinical observership at a world-renowned cancer centre in New York, USA. After relocating to Australia, he undertook further fellowship training in Upper GI, HPB, and Bariatric Surgery. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2007. Dr Kanhere also holds a Master of Clinical Trials and Research and is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (AFRACMA).

In his clinical practice, Dr Kanhere offers a broad range of general and highly specialised surgical procedures. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive techniques, performing keyhole surgeries for weight loss, hernia repairs, and gallbladder removals. He pioneered the establishment of a multidisciplinary bariatric surgery pathway to ensure holistic, long-term support for weight-loss patients. Alongside his clinical work, Dr Kanhere is actively involved in academic research and surgical education, contributing to numerous peer-reviewed publications and regularly guiding the next generation of Medical Students and Surgical Trainees.
