Dr Arash Taheri is a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon and the Founder of the Australian Academy of Robotic Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAROS). He completed his medical degree with honours from the University of Tasmania in 2001 followed by an internship, basic surgical training and his initial orthopaedic registrar training at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Following his time in Melbourne for two years, Dr Taheri began an Advanced Surgical Training program in Perth, Western Australia in 2008. He later completed further international fellowships, working with surgeons across America under the University of Southern California – Keck Medicine. During this period, he gained expertise in robotic joint replacement, establishing himself as the first Australian Fellow fully trained in Stryker/Mako robotics.
Returning to Australia, Dr Taheri has been at the forefront of pioneering Robotic Joint Replacement and Robotic Surgery. Today, he stands as one of the leading hip and knee robotic arm-assisted joint replacement surgeons in Australia. He has presented his work both nationally and internationally and has conducted a Masterclass at the Australia and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists’ Annual Scientific Meeting in Malaysia in 2019.
As an active member of the Orthopaedic community, Dr Taheri played a pivotal role in establishing the Enhanced Recovery Program (ERP) at Joondalup Health Campus, aimed at optimising joint replacement patient outcomes. Under his guidance, the ERP program has significantly enhanced the patient experience through reduced hospital stays, improved pain management, and accelerated recovery times post-surgery.
At AAROS, Dr Taheri employs the latest robotic hip and knee replacement surgical approaches and techniques. He and his team are dedicated to progressive education, focusing on clinical application, advanced techniques, and procedure refinement to ensure optimal patient outcomes. His specialties include robotic assisted hip surgery and robotic assisted knee surgery. He also has specialist expertise in ACL reconstruction, MCL reconstruction, meniscal repair, patellofemoral surgery, lower limb osteotomy, and upper & lower limb trauma.
