Mr Zain Sohail is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based at Peterborough City Hospital, North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in primary and revision hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, arthritis treatment, and complex lower limb trauma. He provides expert assessment and treatment for patients with hip pain, knee pain, osteoarthritis, complex fractures, and painful or failing hip replacements, helping them regain mobility, reduce pain, and return to the activities they enjoy.
Mr Sohail completed his specialist orthopaedic training on the prestigious Cambridge Orthopaedic Rotation, one of the UK's leading higher surgical training programmes. He subsequently undertook the highly regarded British Hip Society-accredited JRI Furlong Fellowship in Arthroplasty and Revision Surgery at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, where he gained extensive experience in primary hip replacement, primary knee replacement, complex joint reconstruction, revision hip replacement, and revision knee replacement surgery. This nationally recognised fellowship provided advanced training in complex primary arthroplasty, revision joint replacement surgery, periprosthetic fractures, and some of the most challenging reconstructive cases in modern orthopaedics.
To further develop his expertise in complex trauma surgery, Mr Sohail went on to serve as a Consultant Trauma and Arthroplasty Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK's busiest Level 1 Major Trauma Centres. During this time, he managed severe lower limb injuries, complex fractures, periprosthetic fractures, and patients requiring highly specialised reconstructive surgery, working within a multidisciplinary trauma service caring for some of the country's most complex orthopaedic cases.
In his current practice at Peterborough City Hospital, Mr Sohail offers comprehensive care for a wide range of hip and knee conditions. His clinical practice includes primary hip replacement, primary knee replacement, complex primary joint replacement, revision joint replacement surgery, lower limb reconstruction, day-case hip and knee replacement surgery, and the management of complex trauma and periprosthetic fractures.
Recognising that surgery is not always the best or most appropriate treatment, Mr Sohail is committed to exploring all suitable non-operative options before recommending an operation. He provides comprehensive management for patients with hip arthritis, knee arthritis, sports-related injuries, and other degenerative joint conditions. Depending on the individual's needs, treatment may include personalised rehabilitation programmes, lifestyle modification, corticosteroid (steroid) joint injections, viscosupplementation (joint lubricant) injections, and other evidence-based therapies. Every treatment plan is carefully tailored to relieve pain, improve mobility, optimise joint function, and help patients maintain an active, independent lifestyle while delaying or, where possible, avoiding the need for surgery.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Sohail has a strong commitment to research, innovation, and surgical education. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, presented his work at national and international scientific meetings, and remains actively involved in research focused on improving outcomes following hip replacement, knee replacement, enhanced recovery pathways, and day-case arthroplasty. He is also passionate about training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons through the East of England Orthopaedic Training Programme.
Mr Sohail is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), the British Hip Society (BHS), and SICOT (International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology), reflecting his ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of orthopaedic practice.
At the heart of Mr Sohail's practice is a commitment to delivering compassionate, personalised, evidence-based care. He believes every patient deserves to understand their condition and treatment options fully, and he takes the time to involve patients in every stage of decision-making. Whether treating arthritis, hip pain, knee pain, sports injuries, complex trauma, or failed joint replacements, his aim is to provide the highest standard of modern orthopaedic care while helping patients return safely and confidently to an active, independent life.
Mr Sohail has a particular interest in enhanced recovery and day-case joint replacement surgery, enabling suitable patients to recover more quickly and safely return home on the day of surgery whenever appropriate.
