Dr Yahya Makkeyah

Dr Yahya Makkeyah is a Consultant Nephrologist with more than 20 years of experience in kidney medicine. He sees patients in person at Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital, as well as via video and telephone consultation, and welcomes both general nephrology referrals and complex, specialist cases.

He has particular expertise in chronic kidney disease (CKD) at every stage — from an early abnormal finding, such as a raised creatinine, reduced eGFR, or protein or blood in the urine, through to more advanced kidney failure. Dr Makkeyah investigates the underlying cause of declining kidney function, identifies any reversible factors, and develops a personalised plan to slow progression and protect long-term kidney health. This includes patients referred following a routine blood test, those with a family history of kidney disease, diabetes-related kidney changes, or anyone seeking a specialist second opinion on an existing CKD diagnosis.

His wider expertise covers kidney transplantation (pre- and post-transplant care), diabetic kidney disease, and autoimmune kidney conditions including vasculitis, lupus nephritis, and IgA nephropathy. He also has a particular interest in hypertension linked to kidney disease, including resistant and secondary hypertension, and blood pressure diagnosed at a younger age.

Dr Makkeyah holds advanced UK specialist qualifications, including Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP London) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Renal Medicine.

His approach focuses on clear communication and personalised care. He provides detailed explanations of diagnoses and treatment options, ensuring patients understand their condition and have a clear management plan. He provides clinical reports to patients' GPs following consultations to support coordinated care. Dr Makkeyah consults in both English and Arabic.
