Dr Ultan McDermott

Dr Ultan McDermott is a dedicated Consultant Medical Oncologist with expertise in diagnosing and managing complex oncological conditions. He is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to the individual needs of each patient. Working at the forefront of modern cancer treatment, he combines clinical excellence with advanced scientific understanding to help patients navigate their treatment journeys with clarity and confidence.

In his clinical practice, Dr McDermott specialises in Medical Oncology, with particular expertise in gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal cancer. His areas of clinical interest encompass targeted cancer therapies, personalised medicine, chemotherapy, and cancer functional genomics. Dr McDermott is particularly focused on understanding therapeutic drug resistance, applying innovative genomic tools and predictive biomarkers to help design effective, individualised treatment strategies for those under his care.

Dr McDermott qualified in medicine with distinctions in Medicine and Surgery in 1994. He subsequently completed specialist training as a Medical Oncologist and earned a PhD in Cancer Biology at Queen's University Belfast. He further expanded his academic and clinical expertise through a post-doctoral research fellowship in cancer genomics at Harvard Medical School. Dr McDermott is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
