Dr Suzan Kakat

Dr Suzan Kakat is an accomplished Consultant Paediatrician and Cardiac Intensivist who specialises in caring for critically ill infants, children, and young people with severe cardiac, respiratory, and thoracic conditions. She provides comprehensive medical care for young patients recovering from complex cardiothoracic surgery, as well as those presenting with acute, life-threatening illnesses. Her patient-centred approach ensures that families feel reassured and supported throughout every stage of their child's treatment.

Her clinical focus lies in Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care, with particular expertise in managing complex congenital and acquired heart diseases. Dr Kakat is skilled in advanced life support techniques, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for refractory cardiac and respiratory failure. Additionally, she is deeply involved in post-discharge follow-up for paediatric ECMO survivors, monitoring neurodevelopmental outcomes and long-term recovery to promote optimal health and development.

Dr Kakat holds a primary medical degree and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH). Alongside her clinical duties, she holds an academic appointment as an Honorary Senior Lecturer, contributing to clinical research and university-level education in paediatric cardiovascular sciences. She is actively engaged in multidisciplinary team simulation training, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives designed to elevate patient safety and critical event management.
