Dr Stephen Wheatcroft

Dr Stephen Wheatcroft is a Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Cardiometabolic Medicine who delivers compassionate, patient-centred cardiac care. Specialising in interventional cardiology and cardiometabolic health, he works closely with individuals experiencing complex heart and vascular conditions. Dr Wheatcroft focuses on providing comprehensive clinical assessments and modern treatment strategies to improve cardiovascular outcomes and enhance patient wellbeing.

His clinical practice encompasses a broad spectrum of interventional cardiology procedures and complex cardiometabolic care. Dr Wheatcroft has expertise in managing acute coronary syndromes, performing percutaneous coronary intervention, and utilising advanced intra-coronary imaging and coronary physiology techniques. Additionally, he focuses on the management of vascular disease in patients with diabetes, leading multidisciplinary approaches to optimise both cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors.

Dr Wheatcroft completed his medical degree at the University of Birmingham in 1994 before undertaking specialist postgraduate training in cardiology and interventional procedures. He earned a PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine from King's College London and completed advanced visiting research fellowships in primary coronary intervention across international institutions. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and holds active leadership roles in national professional bodies, including serving as Chair of CaReMe UK within the British Cardiovascular Society.
