Dr Stephanie Grunewald

Dr Stephanie Grunewald is an experienced Consultant Metabolic Paediatrician specialising in paediatric metabolic diseases and inherited metabolic disorders. With an extensive clinical and research background in paediatric medicine, she provides comprehensive and highly specialised care for children presenting with complex metabolic conditions. Dr Grunewald is dedicated to delivering reassuring and evidence-based clinical management, helping young patients and their families navigate challenging diagnoses with expert care.

Dr Grunewald completed her medical degree and initial post-graduate paediatric training at the University of Düsseldorf, qualifying as a Medical Doctor in 1998. She subsequently undertook sub-speciality training in inborn errors of metabolism across several leading European metabolic centres in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom. She earned a PhD focusing on congenital disorders of glycosylation from the University of Nijmegen in 2006 and attained her Habilitation as a Privatdozent at the University of Essen. Her professional involvement includes membership in the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism and serving as a patron for national patient support groups.

Throughout her career, Dr Grunewald has developed international expertise in the diagnosis and clinical management of rare metabolic conditions. Her primary areas of clinical focus encompass disorders of intermediary metabolism, congenital disorders of glycosylation, galactosaemia, and familial hypercholesterolaemia. She is actively involved in collaborative research and diagnostic coordination, aiming to advance therapeutic strategies and improve health outcomes for children affected by rare inherited metabolic disorders.
