Dr Ravinder Singh

Dr Ravinder Singh is an experienced Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Paediatric Neurology and more than 44 years of experience in paediatric practice. He has extensive experience in the assessment and management of neurological conditions affecting children and young people, with particular expertise in Childhood Epilepsy, Headache Disorders in children and young people, Tics and Tourette Syndrome, Neurological disorders and Neurodisability.

Dr Singh's clinical interests include:

• Paediatric neurology and neurological disorders.
• Childhood epilepsy, including complex epilepsies requiring specialist advice about other options of treatments.
• Headache Disorders in children and young persons
• Movement disorders, including tics and Tourette syndrome.
• Fits, faints and unexplained episodes or “funny turns”.
• Neurodisability.
• Sleep problems.
• Neurogenetic and neurometabolic disorders.

Dr Singh began his career in India, where he worked for more than seven years as a Consultant Paediatrician. He held appointments as Consultant Paediatrician and Reader in Paediatrics at the University of Delhi, as well as Consultant Paediatrician at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. During his academic career, he supervised postgraduate students undertaking MD theses and was an active member of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics. He also served on the editorial board of Indian Pediatrics.

In the United Kingdom, Dr Singh served as Lead Clinician for Paediatric Neurology, Childhood Epilepsy and Neurodisability at University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM), Stoke-on-Trent, from March 2002 to September 2022.

At UHNM, he ran a multidisciplinary neuropsychiatry clinic with colleagues from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), supporting children and young people with neurological conditions associated with mental health difficulties. He also worked closely with specialists in paediatric and neonatal intensive care, orthopaedics, spinal surgery, ophthalmology, ENT and other paediatric subspecialties, providing neurological care and second opinions for their patients.

Alongside this role, Dr Singh worked in the Paediatric Neurology Department at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital as part of the regional paediatric epilepsy service. His work included assessing children with complex epilepsy who might require epilepsy surgery, a ketogenic diet or other specialist treatment approaches. Dr Singh has a longstanding interest in academic paediatrics, medical education, professional training and evidence-based medicine. He serves as a National Tutor for the British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA) and regularly teaches on several national training programmes.

His teaching responsibilities include:

• Paediatric Epilepsy Training (PET) – Levels 1, 2 and 3.
• Children's Headache Training (CHaT1).

Dr Singh was also one of the founding members involved in developing CHaT1, a national one-day training programme established through the BPNA. The programme has delivered more than 40 courses across the country, receiving excellent feedback.

Dr Singh runs a private paediatric neurology practice in Manchester and London, providing specialist assessment and care for children and young people with neurological conditions, epilepsy, headache disorders, movement disorders, neurodisability, sleep problems and neurogenetic and neurometabolic disorders.

Dr Ravinder Singh takes a comprehensive, child-centred approach to paediatric neurology, recognising that neurological conditions can affect a child's development, education, emotional wellbeing and family life. He aims to understand each child's symptoms in the context of their wider medical and developmental needs, working collaboratively with families and other healthcare professionals to support appropriate investigation, diagnosis and management.
