Dr Simon Hannam

Dr Simon Hannam is an accomplished Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Neonatologist who provides expert, comprehensive care for infants, premature neonates, and critically ill children. Serving as a Clinical Lead for neonatal services, he oversees specialised medical care for young patients presenting with complex, rare, or acute conditions. Dr Hannam is known for his reassuring and professional approach, ensuring that families receive clear communication, dedicated support, and tailored treatment plans during challenging medical situations.

Dr Hannam completed his medical qualification at University College London in 1988. He attained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1992 and subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) research degree investigating mechanoreceptor reflexes and sudden infant death syndrome. He completed higher specialist training in neonatology at major London teaching centres and maintains full specialist accreditation alongside membership with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

Dr Hannam possesses extensive clinical expertise across all facets of high-dependency and neonatal critical care. His clinical interests include neonatal respiratory failure, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, neonatal hypotension, congenital malformations, and prolonged neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia. He routinely manages advanced respiratory support, conventional and high-frequency ventilation strategies, phototherapy, and multi-disciplinary interventions for complex medical and surgical neonates.

In addition to his clinical commitments, Dr Hannam is actively engaged in medical education, governance, and child safety initiatives. He contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate training for paediatric doctors and advanced practitioners, serves as a Medical Lead for child death reviews, and participates in clinical research published in peer-reviewed medical journals.
