Ms Shiying Hey

Ms Shiying Hey is a highly accomplished Consultant ENT Surgeon and Laryngologist who specialises in the diagnosis and management of voice, airway, swallowing, and sleep disorders. With a subspecialist focus on laryngology, she provides compassionate, tailored care for adults presenting with a wide spectrum of ear, nose, and throat conditions. Ms Hey possesses particular expertise in caring for professional voice users and performers, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive clinical evaluations and individualised treatment plans tailored to their vocal and upper respiratory needs.

Ms Hey earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) from the University of Edinburgh. She subsequently completed specialist Ear, Nose and Throat surgical training alongside advanced subspecialist fellowships in laryngology, phonomicrosurgery, and neurolaryngology across prominent clinical institutions both nationally and internationally. Her qualifications include a Diploma in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (DO-HNS), a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education (PG Dip ClinEd), and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Otolaryngology (FRCS (ORL-HNS)). She is an elected Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFSTEd) and holds active affiliations with the European Laryngological Society, the Union of European Phoniatricians, and the British Laryngological Association.

In her clinical practice, Ms Hey offers an extensive range of diagnostic assessments and surgical interventions. Her areas of clinical interest encompass vocal cord disorders, chronic cough, nasal blockage, obstructive sleep apnoea, swallowing dysfunction (dysphagia), and tonsil and adenoid infections. She routinely performs specialised procedures such as laryngoscopy, microlaryngoscopy, thyroplasty, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, nasal endoscopy, ear microsuction, and obstructive sleep apnoea surgery. She is also experienced in minimally invasive in-office procedures, including EMG-guided Botulinum Toxin injections for laryngeal conditions and airway balloon dilation.

Beyond her direct patient care, Ms Hey maintains a dedicated commitment to medical education and academic advancement. She actively contributes to surgical training and international educational initiatives, serving as Director of the mentoring programme within the European Laryngological Society and head of written examinations for the European Board Examination in Laryngology. She regularly lectures on phonosurgery and laryngology topics worldwide and hosts a global podcast dedicated to voice care and performance health, reflecting her enduring dedication to advancing the field of otolaryngology.
