Dr Shalabh Srivastava

Dr Srivastava has trained in Nephrology at Barts and The London and then in Newcastle upon Tyne. He completed his PhD in Newcastle University and remains active in clinical and basic research.

Dr Srivastava has extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of kidney diseases.

Dr Srivastava has been involved in clinical research from the beginning of his renal training in London and has published his work in peer-reviewed journals (please see links below). His PhD was in renal genetics where he investigated the role of primary cilia in cyst formation within the kidneys. This research was funded by Kidney Research UK (£225,000) and additionally Dr Srivastava was awarded a travelling fellowship by the European Renal Association. He used this travel fellowship to go to University Medical Center,Utrecht to learn novel scientific techniques .

Since being appointed as a Consultant Nephrologist at City Hospitals Sunderl and South Tyneside Healthcare group Dr Srivastava has established a new Renal Genetics and renal stone diseases clinic at City Hospitals Sunderland.

Dr Srivastava is actively involved in recruiting to clinical trials in Hyperoxaluria, Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease and Alports syndrome. He was recently appointed as an Honorary Associate Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University and actively participates in both clinical and basic science research.
