Mr. Sankar Ananth is a consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery in South Wales. He studied Medicine at the University of Wales, Cardiff and completed his higher surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in London & South Wales and obtained his FRCS in 2012. Following on from his higher surgical training, Mr. Ananth did his fellowship in facial plastic surgery in Portland, Oregon, USA. After which he was appointed to a substantive consultant post at Swansea Bay University Health Board in 2013.
His subspecialty interests include skin cancer surgery, facial trauma surgery and salivary gland surgery
Mr Ananth is the deputy Training Programme Director for Maxillofacial Surgery in Wales and a member of the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons for the Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS).
Mr Ananth is a keen educator and is the course convener of the South Wales OMFS cadaveric course for higher surgical trainees, member of the Editorial Advisory board for the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (BJOMS) and a reviewer for Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Surgery Journal (CPCJ), Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) and International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (IJOMS). Mr. Ananth was the clinical lead for the maxillofacial unit at Swansea Bay University Health Board from 2015 to 2019 and is a representative for the health board at the Welsh Consultants Committee (WCC).
Mr. Ananth is married with 2 children. Outside of his work, he enjoys reading, cycling, travelling and follow sports particularly cricket. He also supports the Saving Faces Charity, sponsors the education of a child and participate in voluntary work whenever possible.
