Professor Samuel Stein

Professor Samuel Stein is a highly regarded Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in child, adolescent, and family mental health. He provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and compassionate clinical care for young people presenting with emotional, behavioural, and neurodevelopmental difficulties. Adopting a holistic bio-psycho-social framework, Professor Stein works closely with patients and their families to understand the origin of psychological challenges and establish tailored care plans designed to help children reach their full potential.

Professor Stein completed his primary medical degree and qualified as a doctor in 1986 before undertaking specialist postgraduate psychiatric training in Oxford, Cambridge, and London. In addition to his core medical qualifications, he holds postgraduate degrees in law and legal practice. Over the course of his distinguished academic and clinical career, he has served as a Clinical Director, Honorary Senior Lecturer, and Visiting Professor. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and holds professional memberships with the General Medical Council, the British Medical Association, the Association for Child Psychology and Psychiatry, the International Society for Neuro-Psychoanalysis, and the Association of Lawyers for Children.

In his clinical practice, Professor Stein focuses on a broad array of paediatric mental health conditions, including autism spectrum conditions, anxiety, depression, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, tics, and Tourette's syndrome. He frequently addresses behavioural concerns, feeding and sleep difficulties, academic under-achievement, and school non-attendance, as well as the mental health impact of physical illnesses such as gastrointestinal and neurological conditions. His evidence-based treatment repertoire includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, family work, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and careful psychiatric medication prescribing with regular review.
