Dr. Himanshu Tyagi is a consultant neuropsychiatrist specialising in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders, including Tourette syndrome, body dysmorphic disorder, and neuropsychiatric comorbidities. He runs a specialist outpatient clinic for Tourette syndrome comorbid with OCD and provides expert neuropsychiatric input as part of an NHS England commissioned level 1 neurorehabilitation service.
Dr. Tyagi initially trained as a psychiatrist before specialising as a medical psychotherapist. His strong research interests in OCD have led him to coordinate MRC-funded clinical research, evaluating new treatment approaches for severe, treatment-refractory OCD. He has a long-standing affiliation with the UCL Institute of Neurology in Queen Square, where he also works as an inpatient consultant in neurorehabilitation. In this capacity, he offers specialist neuropsychiatric input to patients in a tertiary neurorehabilitation unit and runs a special interest group for psychiatry specialist registrars interested in neuropsychiatry, as well as providing honorary placements for MSc students from UCLH-affiliated courses.
Dr. Tyagi's research expertise primarily focuses on OCD, its related disorders, and associated comorbidities such as Tourette syndrome and body dysmorphic disorder. Before joining UCLH at Queen Square in 2016, he coordinated the MRC-UCL randomised controlled trial of deep brain stimulation for severe, treatment-refractory OCD from 2012-2016. Dr. Tyagi completed his basic specialist training at St. Mary’s Hospital in north London and advanced psychiatric training at the National Service for OCD and Body Dysmorphic Disorder at Springfield University Hospital, south London, where he was recognised with a national award from the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2012. He is also the co-founder and current vice-chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Faculty Network for Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders (OCARD).

We engaged Dr Tyagi privately as a recommended OCD specialist for our 19-year-old daughter in December 2025. We are self-funded and placed enormous trust and financial sacrifice into his care. Following our initial consultation, he failed to send correspondence to our GP, delaying our daughter's medication by approximately one month despite us chasing on at least five occasions. He then failed to attend a scheduled video appointment in January 2026. We waited over an hour. No one joined, no one called, and no meaningful explanation was ever given. Communication throughout was appalling. His secretary was routinely unresponsive, often taking days or weeks to reply, and was dismissive when she did. At one point we went approximately two weeks with no response whatsoever despite multiple emails, calls, and messages. We were left completely in the dark while our daughter's condition was deteriorating and we were desperate for help. A private prescription we requested in late January was never provided. Therapy that was supposed to begin in February was repeatedly delayed because Dr Tyagi failed to brief our daughter's therapist on the treatment plan. When we raised this, he told us he had already contacted the therapist the previous week. The therapist confirmed she had received nothing from him. Our daughter is now in a worse position than when we started. We spent a significant amount of money and received no meaningful treatment in return. Following our formal complaint, the Priory Group terminated Dr Tyagi's contract. We would urge any family considering Dr Tyagi to lo...

DR Himanshu is a neuropyschiatrist and also a cbt psychologist and attention training and awarness specialist. This allows him to provide treatment at a much more specialised level where complex cases treated effectively by him. In my case I was suffering from a moderately severe case of OCD for years and when I started with Dr Himannshu he educated me and guided me to become my own therapist as well as training me in getting strong at various mental strategies of overcoming my extreme anxiety. Today I would say I am in remission from OCD although some stressful situations can trigger occasional fare ups which I am able to manage and regain control thanks to the support, guidance, training, compassion, wisdom and assistance of Dr Himanshu. I am forever thankful to Dr Himanshu in helping me regain control of my life back.
