Qualifications

Dr Sakura Hingley qualified as a doctor from Imperial College, London,  in 2006 and has since developed a broad and progressive career in paediatrics, with a specialist focus on Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM). Her early postgraduate training was completed through the Foundation Programme at West Middlesex University Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital, where she gained experience across respiratory and general medicine, surgery, urology, accident and emergency medicine, neonatal medicine, and general practice. These formative rotations provided a strong grounding in acute clinical care, multidisciplinary teamwork, and holistic patient management.

Dr Hingley entered paediatric specialty training in 2009 and undertook a wide range of clinical posts across London teaching hospitals. During her early specialty years, she developed expertise in neonatal medicine, general paediatrics, paediatric surgery, community paediatrics, respiratory medicine, allergy, and gastroenterology. These posts enabled her to manage children with both acute and chronic conditions across hospital and community settings, while further developing her communication, safeguarding, and leadership skills.

Her growing interest in emergency and acute paediatric care led her to pursue GRID training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. From 2014 onwards, she undertook dedicated PEM and Paediatric Intensive Care training at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital, and St Thomas’ Hospital. These roles provided extensive experience in the assessment and management of critically ill and injured children in high-pressure clinical environments, including trauma, resuscitation, and complex acute presentations. Alongside her clinical responsibilities, she worked closely with multidisciplinary teams, supervised junior doctors, and contributed to service delivery within busy tertiary emergency departments.

Following completion of specialist training, Dr Hingley was appointed as a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 2018, before securing a substantive Consultant post in January 2019. She has since continued to work as a Consultant in a major London paediatric emergency department, delivering high-quality acute care to children and young people while contributing to departmental leadership, teaching, and clinical governance activities. Her consultant career has also included balancing clinical responsibilities with family life, including periods of maternity leave.

Overall, Dr Hingley has over fifteen years of progressive paediatric experience across tertiary, district general, and community healthcare settings, culminating in her current role as a substantive Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
