For the past 21 years, Dr Quinton have been a full-time NHS Consultant Endocrinologist at Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, and University Senior Lecturer at the Translational & Clinical Research Institute.
He was brought up in South London and qualified in Medicine from Cambridge University in 1988. Thereafter, he trained mainly in London, apart from for a year spent working in Rotterdan, The Netherlands on an Erasmus exchange programme.
He is a Fellow of the Edinburgh Royal College of Physicians, a Member of the British, European and American Endocrine Societies, and act as Treasurer to the Endocrinology Section of UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists).
He sits on the Exam Board and standard Setting Group for the UK and European postgraduate Examinations in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism.
He regularly teach and lecture on regional, national and international conferences and training courses in Endocrinology and related specialties.
He maintains strong links with several patient support groups, and supports the role of "expert patients" in helping other patients to navigate healthcare pathways that may appear complex or opaque.
He remains active in medical research and has authored nearly 200 publications, along with a prize-winning doctoral (MD) thesis from Cambridge University.
He is an internationally recognised authority in the area of Reproductive Endocrinology and have helped to draft several key national and international guidelines.
He works closely with colleagues based at Newcastle Fertility Centre and in the Northern region Gender Dysphoria Service.
He is fortunate to work with NHS Endocrinologist colleagues who are likewise major experts in their respective fields, and find himself constantly learning new things from my regular interactions with them.
He speaks Italian and French fluently and ais also able to readily read and understand medical correspondence in Spanish, German and Dutch.
He is married with three teenage children.
