Dr Raoul Blumberg

Dr Raoul Blumberg is a highly regarded Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist who provides expert care for infants, children, and young people. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, he specialises in managing complex neonatal conditions and general paediatric concerns. His clinical practice is dedicated to ensuring the health and development of his young patients, offering comprehensive support to families during what can often be a challenging and emotional time.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr Blumberg has developed deep expertise in neonatal intensive care, paediatric cardiology, and neonatal neurology. He has a particular clinical interest in congenital heart disease, newborn infant screening, and hypoxic ischaemic brain injury. In addition to his clinical work, he has been actively involved in paediatric research, collaborating on studies investigating the mechanisms of brain injury in newborns. He also contributes significantly to medical education, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, as well as training Midwives and Neonatal Nurses.

Dr Blumberg obtained his primary medical qualification, the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), from the University of Cape Town in 1982. He completed his initial House Officer roles and medical training in adult emergency medicine, pathology, and paediatrics at leading teaching hospitals in South Africa before relocating to the United Kingdom in 1989. There, he undertook advanced specialist training in paediatrics and neonatology at several prestigious London teaching hospitals and spent three years conducting basic science research at a leading London university. His postgraduate qualifications include a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) awarded in 1991 and membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1992. He was also awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) in Neonatal Medicine in 2002.
