Mr Rao M Khan

Mr Rao M Khan is a dedicated Consultant General and colorectal Surgeon specialising in laparoscopic general surgery and colorectal procedures. With a focus on delivering clear, patient-centred care, he provides comprehensive management for a wide array of abdominal and digestive health conditions. Mr Khan takes an objective ,evidence based and reassuring approach to patient care, ensuring that every individual receives a thorough clinical evaluation and a tailored treatment plan designed to achieve optimal outcomes.

Mr Khan completed his medical education (MBBS) at King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan. He undertook his basic surgical training in the Republic of Ireland, followed by higher surgical training across both Ireland and the United Kingdom, culminating in his entry onto the General Medical Council Specialist Register for General and colorectal Surgery. Demonstrating a strong dedication to academic research, he earned a Master of Science (MSc) with distinction from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He holds Fellowships and qualifications including the ChM and FRCS, and maintains professional affiliation with the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.

As a Consultant General Surgeon, Mr Khan brings extensive expertise in both minimally invasive keyhole procedures and open surgery. His core general surgical work includes gallbladder surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy), repair of groin, umbilical, and incisional hernias, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He also treats acute emergency gastrointestinal conditions, such as appendicitis and perforated ulcers, as well as benign proctological conditions including anal fistulae, anal fissures, and haemorrhoids and proctalgia.

Beyond general surgery, Mr Khan has advanced expertise in lower gastrointestinal disorders and diagnostic endoscopy. He performs surgical procedures for bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and early rectal tumours, utilising advanced techniques such as Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS). He is Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accredited in both upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, regularly undertaking gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, colonic polypectomy, and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR).
