Mr. Ram Venkatesh is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 20 years of expertise, specialising in knee surgery. He graduated in medicine from Madras, India, in 1991 and then completed a master’s programme in orthopaedic surgery at Calcutta, where he was awarded the prestigious President's Gold Medal by the Orthopaedic Association.
Following this, Mr. Venkatesh pursued his higher surgical training in the UK on the Wessex rotation, where he gained extensive experience in knee replacements, cartilage and meniscus specialised reconstructions, ligament reconstructions and osteotomies. He has developed a tertiary referral practice in complex knee reconstructions especially for meniscus and cartilage regeneration, stem cell and allograft treatments, surgery to treat patella dislocations, knee osteotomies, patello-femoral replacements and Robotic assisted knee replacements.
Mr Venkatesh is a Key Opinion Leader for some of the areas highlighted above and is helping developing a new knee replacement that is metal-free.
Mr Venkatesh teaches knee surgery techniques at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and more than Twenty of his senior trainees have now become Consultants in Knee Surgery in various parts of the UK and abroad..
Mr. Venkatesh has published extensively in various aspects of knee reconstructive surgery but curently is focussing improving outcomes in knee replacements using modern technology, and knee replacement design and materials. He offers the VELYS™ robotic-assisted solution for total knee replacement surgery, providing a new level of precision and accuracy.
As a highly respected member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), where he also served as an executive member, Mr. Venkatesh is a lifetime member of the Biological Knee Reconstruction Society and is performing collaborative research via the International Cartilage Repair Society.
