I had to attend an educational presentation and meet with occupational therapist and specialist nurse before my operation. This was very valuable in knowing what to expect, questions were answered and the O T was able to arrange for equipment ie raised toilet seat to be delivered to my home before my operation. On the operation day everything was explained to me as it it was happening. I did not have general anaesthetic but asked to be asleep during the operation and so I was blissfully unaware until it was over. I spent two nights in hospital where pain levels were checked regularly plus all the normal observations. Physiotherapists soon had me walking with a frame to the toilet and up and down steps. The morning after the operation my knee was checked with an X-ray. The first week was painful but for me it was mainly the actual cut which was stapled. It really stung and was a burning kind of pain on bending but it stopped after exactly a week and after another week the staples came out. For me that was the worst of the pain over. I had a knee I could stand and walk on without pain and that was just wonderful. The bending and straightening was checked by the physio at each of the four visits I made to rehab and which exercises I needed to concentrate on. I needed this encouragement due to being an unfit 77 yr old with other health issues but at 3 months post operation I was discharged with 115 degrees bending and 0 on straightening. My knee does everything I need it to and I have no pain. My grateful thanks to Mr Yassa, and all the orthopaedic staff at Traffo...
