Dr Micheal Kurkar is an experienced consultant psychiatrist based at Calderbank Medical Chambers in Didsbury, Manchester. He is also the clinical director of mental health services in Oldham and currently works at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust in adult psychiatry and TMS. He is the clinical lead of the Pennine Care TMS service and was responsible for establishing the first NHS TMS service in the North West of England. He is active in TMS research and is the principal investigator for the BRIGhTMIND TMS Randomised Control Trial.
Dr Kurkar manages and treats a wide range of mental disorders including depression, treatment-resistant depression, bipolar affective disorder, adult ADHD, anxiety, and psychosis. His special interest is in liaison psychiatry and pain medicine. He works with patients with mental health conditions related to chronic physical health conditions which often co-exist with or exacerbate chronic pain.
Dr Kurkar specialised in perinatal psychiatry. He is able to treat mental health conditions that occur during pregnancy and in the postnatal period, such as postnatal depression and puerperal psychosis. He also provides preconception consultations for women with mental health conditions.
Dr Kurkar gained his MBChB from Alexandria University in 1999 and gained his Master Degree in Psychiatry from the University of Manchester 2015. He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrist. He is also member of the Clinical TMS society.

I didn't really know what to expect with the process of having an ADHD assessment, but from the initial consultation to the assessment itself, Dr Kurkar made me feel at ease and importantly, listened to. He has a good humoured and warm manner, explained everything as we went along, and I could tell everything I said was taken into careful consideration. I would 100% not hesitate to recommend Dr Kurkar!

Dr Kurkar was very empathetic, understanding and knowledgeable. The assessments were nicely paced and with good humour. I was daunted going in but put as ease quickly and would highly recommend this process. I feel like I’ve come out with practical and actionable plans to improve things for myself.

I feel like I was understood and relaxed throughout the appointment. Things were explained in a way that was easy for me to process. I felt satisfied with the outcome and know a variety of solutions to help me which include both unmedicated and medicated options.

Dr Kurkar has been brilliant. He is incredibly understanding and patient. I turned up to my first appointment incredibly nervous and anxious, but Dr Kurkar made me feel at ease. The outcome has genuinely changed my life and I can’t thank him enough for his support throughout my diagnosis. I would have no hesitation in recommending.

Dr Kurkar has got to be one of the best Doctors I have ever come across and have had experience with. He is so patient, kind and trustworthy. He always let me talk and has never belittled anything I have said. He is so approachable and I have never felt more at ease before. I am so glad Dr Kurkar is my consultant and I am so thankful for him.

Dr. Kurkar has truly changed my life, and I can't praise him or express my gratitude to him enough after years of dealing with my mental health and feeling hopeless because I couldn't get any answers. I don't know where I would be now if it hadn't been for Dr. Kurkar and his expertise.
