I wish to express my utmost gratitude and sincere appreciation for the exceptional care provided to my mother by Professor Ayliffe and his team in Shirley Oaks Hospital and AcueVision Clinic. Professor Ayliffe took on an extremely complex and challenging case, performing cataract surgery on her eye and further treating damage to her other eye. Prior to coming under his care, my mother had undergone a very complicated cataract removal procedure in Poland, which was unfortunately unsuccessful and resulted in six additional eye surgeries. Following these procedures, my mother developed severe, debilitating headaches, and her quality of life deteriorated dramatically. What had once been a normal life quickly turned into a nightmare for her. Professor Ayliffe' expertise, dedication, and willingness to take on such a complicated case made a profound difference to my mother’s health and wellbeing. We are deeply grateful not only for your outstanding surgical skill, but also for the care, professionalism, and reassurance Professor Ayliffe showed throughout her treatment. Professor Ayliffe has done for my mother. His support, dedication, and compassion during such an incredibly difficult time meant more to our family than words can fully express. We will always remain deeply grateful for Professors help, kindness, and commitment to her care.

I accompanied my 98 years old Mother for her appointment with Professor Ayliffe. He reviewed my Mother’s OCT scan and made the decision that she didn’t need an injection at this time and that he would see her again in April to review her condition. He fully explained his rationale for this decision. My Mother has been a patient of Professor Ayliffe since 2018 when he diagnosed her with macular degeneration. During this time, we have been totally satisfied with treatment my Mother has received from Professor Ayliffe. He has always been very caring towards my Mother and has always fully explained any treatment he has given. Both my Mother and I have total confidence in his treatment of her.

Professor W Ayliffe was the only ophthalmologist who correctly diagnosed my eye condition on the first visit after years of seeing others. Follow-up blood tests confirmed it. He explains everything clearly, step by step, and answered all my questions. Highly recommended.

Having previously had a very traumatic eye operation I was extremely nervous to let anyone near my eyes! But Prof Ayliffe is exceptional! You can instantly tell that he knows his stuff, and his friendly chatter put me at ease instantly! I won't trust anyone but him with my eyes ever again!

I had the pleasure of being treated by Professor William Ayliffe for a chalazion removal at Shirley Oaks Hospital, and I cannot recommend his services highly enough. Professor Ayliffe’s professionalism, empathy, and deep medical expertise were evident throughout the entire process. The procedure itself was carefully and expertly carried out, with each step explained beforehand, and a thorough aftercare advice to ensure a smooth recovery. Professor Ayliffe exemplifies the highest standards of patient care and I would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking ophthalmic treatment.

I first came in to contact with Professor Ayliffe around 15-20 years ago with iritis/uveitis having discovered he is a world renowned expert in such things. He advised me then of my developing cataracts and suggested I return to him when the time came to deal with them. Last year I received superb advice, care and support from Professor Ayliffe throughout the course of my required simultaneous bilateral cataract surgery. (SBCS) I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending him most highly. Indeed I have already done so with everyone I know who is considering this. I am 12 month post op, and have had absolutely no issues whatsoever, at any stage. I am now pretty much 98% glasses free, and frankly I don’t really worry about the other 2%! I can also say SBCS worked extremely well for me. I walked out of the hospital an hour after my operation with far better eyesight than when I walked in!

I cannot recommend Professor Ayliffe highly enough, as someone who has worked in a non-clinical role in the NHS for over 50 years I am used to dealing with Doctors. From my first appointment to my post operative follow-up a few weeks later I had nothing but expert treatment and care. During the surgery everything was explained at every point and despite concerns I had the procedure was faultless and despite the fact was was not really in a bed at any point, Professor Ayliffe had an excellent bedside manner.
