Professor Jaspal Kooner is a Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and he also sees patients privately.

He specialises in coronary artery disease, stenting, the treatment of heart attack, coronary angioplasty, hypertension, arrhythmia and heart failure. He also has a background in research, having made some highly important discoveries.

Professor Kooner established the London Life Sciences Population study (LOLIPOP), which recruited over 30,000 Indian Asian and European participants. This resulted in the discovery of novel genetic variants underlying coronary heart disease, type-2 diabetes, obesity, and other disorders highly prevalent among Indian Asians.

Professor Kooner qualified in 1981 from the University of London and then completed the MRCS examination for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was awarded a LRCP qualification in the same year. After training, he gained experience at the National Heart Lung Institute, Hammersmith Hospital and St Mary's Hospital. In 2004, he was awarded the national ‘Hospital Doctor of the Year' award, across the NHS.

Professor Kooner is also active in education and this includes training UK cardiologists and junior doctors. He has authored numerous papers, review articles, book chapters and also presented at national and international events.
