He trained in Cambridge, London, Oxford and the USA and has been a Consultant Vascular Surgeon since 2000. He has over 29 years experience in the treatment of varicose veins and other vascular conditions. He has worked in NHS and private settings and is the founder of Veincare.

He is an expert in Local anaesthetic, walk-in walk out treatments for people with varicose veins. Mr Braithwaite aims to treat all the varicose veins in one session, so people seldom have to return for a further procedure. He can also provide the same service for people who wish, or need, to have their treatments under General anaesthetic or sedation as a day case or overnight stay.

In the past 10 years Mr Braithwaite has treated over three thousand private patients with varicose veins and other vascular conditions. This is in addition to many more in his NHS job where he set up the Venous service in Europe's largest day case facility: the Circle Treatment Centre.

Mr Braithwaite is an international expert in treating Varicose Veins and other vascular conditions. His research work has been used by NICE to guide the best treatments for both Private and NHS patients.

Mr Braithwaite's advice is often sought by other consultants, who want to know how to treat people with varicose veins and deep venous disease.

He has treated many of his medical colleagues, who have sought his opinion, because of his reputation for giving a sound opinion and only advising a procedure is done, when it is necessary, and based on the best evidence.

A pioneer of research into varicose vein treatment, Mr Braithwaite led the team that introduced the Olympus RFiTT keyhole technique. He also enjoys other roles including Council Member of the Venous Forum of the Royal Society of Medicine; Clinical Lead for the Cardiac, Vascular and Respiratory Department at Circle Healthcare, Nottingham and Founder Member of the International Society for Vascular Surgery.
