Dr Pieter Pretorius

Dr Pieter Pretorius is a Consultant Radiologist specialising in diagnostic Neuroradiology. He focuses on the interpretation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans of the brain, spine, skull base, and head and neck in both adult and paediatric patients. By providing thorough and precise diagnostic assessments, Dr Pretorius supports clinical teams in reaching clear diagnoses and delivering well-informed patient care.

In his clinical practice, Dr Pretorius has a dedicated focus on central nervous system conditions, including disorders of the spine, ear, nose, and throat (ENT), and orbital regions. His primary areas of clinical interest include brain tumour imaging and diagnostic surveillance for patients with Neurofibromatosis type 2. Working alongside multidisciplinary neuro-oncology and surgical teams, he uses modern neuroimaging techniques to provide accurate diagnostic insights that assist in surgical planning, disease monitoring, and treatment evaluation.

Dr Pretorius qualified in medicine with an MBChB (cum laude) from the University of the Free State in 1993. He was subsequently awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at the University of Oxford, where he completed an MSc in Radiology. He undertook higher specialist training as a Specialist Registrar in Radiology followed by a formal sub-specialty fellowship in neuroradiology. Dr Pretorius is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) and a member of the Glioma Neurosurgery Research Group within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford.
