Dr Philip Short

Dr Philip Short is Consultant Respiratory Physician at Ninewells Hospital, NHS Tayside, with a practice built over two decades in the specialty.

He trained in medicine at the University of Dundee, gained MRCP in 2008, and completed an MD in 2014 on the use of beta-blockers in asthma and COPD, before being elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2019.

His outpatient practice concentrates on asthma, COPD, unexplained breathlessness, pleural disease and lung cancer. He leads the regional pleural service, providing thoracic ultrasound and medical thoracoscopy, and contributes to the national mesothelioma multidisciplinary team as well as the local lung cancer MDT and bronchoscopy service.

Respiratory Scotland was founded to bring that same standard of assessment to patients across Scotland seeking private outpatient respiratory consultation, whether referred by a GP or seeking a specialist opinion directly.

Dr Short welcomes both GP and self-referrals, and sees patients registered with all major health insurance providers. His approach combines clinical expertise, clear communication, and personalised care to help patients breathe easier and live better.
