Dr Peta Coulson-Smith

Dr Peta Coulson-Smith is a dedicated General Paediatrician and Clinical Academic with expertise in child and young person health. She is committed to delivering holistic, compassionate, and patient-focused care to young people and their families. With a strong clinical focus on supporting young patients through complex physical and emotional health challenges, Dr Coulson-Smith combines high clinical standards with empathetic care, ensuring every child receives tailored medical support.

Her areas of clinical interest include paediatric mental health, paediatric palliative care, medical ethics and law, and medical education. Dr Coulson-Smith is a passionate advocate for improving care standards for children and young people experiencing mental health concerns. Her dual role in clinical practice and academic research enables her to integrate modern, evidence-informed approaches into paediatric care and medical training, fostering open communication between families, carers, and healthcare teams.

Dr Coulson-Smith completed her medical degree via the BM4 programme at the University of Southampton, qualifying in 2012. Prior to her medical training, she worked as an Occupational Therapist. She holds a Master's degree in Medical Ethics and Law and is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, as well as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
