About Dr Paul Ferguson
Dr Ferguson is a consultant Haematologist working at University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Trust. He specialises in treating patients with both malignant blood cancers and those with general, benign blood disorders. He has a particular interest in treating patients with myeloma, lymphoma and myeloid malignancies, bone marrow transplantation and CAR T cell therapy.
Dr Ferguson holds a national role as Director of the Midlands and Wales Advanced Therapies Treatment Centres (MW-ATTC) focused on the delivery of next generation, advanced clinical trials and therapies for patients across the region.
He has previously held the post of lead clinician for Haematology at two of the biggest Haematology departments in the West Midlands at University Hospitals Birmingham and University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. He has a strong interest in cancer diagnostics and has held a leadership position within the West Midlands Cancer Alliance with a focus on faster cancer diagnostic pathways and supported the role out of novel non-site specific cancer diagnostic pathways across the West Midlands.
He is strongly patient focused and dedicated to delivering the best in patient care.
Dr Ferguson graduated in medicine with honours from the University of Birmingham having previously attained a first class honours degree in Biomedical Science and a PhD in Cancer research with a focus on molecular biology.
His haematology training was principally based at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. During this time he was appointed as an academic clinical lecturer and aligned clinical commitments with clinical research. His areas for research were the delivery of early phase clinical trials, bone marrow transplantation and basic scientific research into the genetics of acute myeloid leukaemia which he undertook at Oxford University and the University of Birmingham. He is an author on a number of high impact clinical research publications and has received a national award for his research.
He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.

My family will always be grateful to him for his part in my diagnosis and journey.

Would highly recommend Dr Ferguson, he explains everything clearly, not using medical speak which really helped me to understand the matter. Very empathetic and understanding , and ensures that you can get the right treatment with the right level experience required in a timeline suitable for my needs.
Unlike any Consultant ive met prior. He clearly cares about each individual patient and one is left with the impression that Mr Ferguson will take as long as it needs to in order for the patient to fully understand diagnosis, treatment and next steps. Having no medical experience, I often struggle with understanding what medical professionals mean by termonology. No such frustration with Mr Ferguson. In short, he is knowledgeable, able to explain complex issues simply.....and cares enough to take the time to do exactly that. Every time. I would recommend Mr Ferguson unreservedly to anyone seeking an expert in the field of haematology.
Dr Ferguson is always very helpful, caring and empathetic. He is a breathe of fresh air always positive, happy and uplifting. I find him to be very thorough and I feel at ease being looked after by him as I know he is on the ball and I always have a plan in place.
