Mr Omer Alanie is a dual fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. His practice is dedicated exclusively to the knee, managing the full spectrum of conditions from sports injuries to complex arthritis. He runs a tertiary-level NHS practice, frequently receiving regional referrals for challenging knee problems.
His expertise includes the management of ligament injuries such as ACL, meniscus, and cartilage tears, kneecap dislocation, and articular cartilage damage. For younger, active patients with knee arthritis, he offers re-alignment (osteotomy) surgery to improve function and delay the need for joint replacement. For advanced arthritis, he performs both partial and total knee replacement surgery, including robotically assisted procedures.
Mr Alanie graduated with Honours from the University of Glasgow in 2011 and completed orthopaedic training in Glasgow and Newcastle. He was awarded a Masters in Surgical Sciences with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh for his research and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2021. He subsequently completed fellowships in Liverpool and Birmingham, as well as the British Orthopaedic Association Chatterjee Travelling Fellowship in Europe.
Committed to research and education, he has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles, presents internationally, and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.

Just had the most professional procedure for my knee surgery by Mr Alanie and it has changed my life. The staff provided the same support shown by Mr Alanie which helped to complete a stay in hospital that I was not looking forward to. All round a brilliant experience. A, L.
Excellent service, explained everything in detail and extremely pleasant too, a pleasure to have Mr Alanie as my consultant, an asset for the NHS. Thankyou
I found Mr Alanie to be extremely personable and felt very comfortable with him, both before and after surgery. I felt that I was in good hands. I am delighted with the outcome of my two knee replacements and would have no hesitation in recommending his skills as a knee surgeon.
Doctor Alanie was responsible for my surgery and I have no regrets. He’s very polite, but more importantly straight-forward (with professional mannerisms). The entire team also show this very same attitude which in my opinion reflects how well they all work together. If you’re in the care of Doctor Alanie, you’re in great hands.
Excellent consultation with Mr Alonie, explained everything clearly. Sent me for immediate x rays. I came away with a plan to reduce the pain in my knees and options moving forward. I would highly recommend Mr Alanie and this was great service from the NHS too. Thank you I am very grateful to both.
Excellent professional mannerisms. Clearly laid out options and expectations of the procedure beforehand. Really pleased with the outcome.
I had a check up on the progress of my rehabilitation after a knee replacement.
Mr. Alanie was very professional and pleasant and provided me with not only the benefits of having the knee replacement but also the potential down side so that I could make a rational decision knowing all of the facts. The operation performed by Mr. Alanie went very well and all the nurses and anesthetist involved made my whole experience and recovery time at Droitwich a very positive one and. I would certainly recommend Droitwich and particularly Mr. Alanie to anyone thinking of going through the same operation.
Dr Alani has a manner which puts one at ease from the word go. Every thing is explained in detail and you never feel that you are just another customer.
I am very pleased and happy with my experience, he was very kind and helpful, supportive and welcoming making the whole experience very comfortable. Asma
