Dr Nima Hashemi graduated from St George's hospital medical school, University of London in 2002 with an award in clinical management and undertook most of his training in London and Surrey.
He became a substantive consultant in 2012 with dual accreditation in elderly care medicine and general internal medicine. He also completed a post graduate qualification in Gerontology at King's College London in 2011.
Nima works at Croydon University Hospital and looks after elderly inpatients and is the on call rota for acute elderly care admissions. He has regular general outpatient clinics for patients aged 65 years and older and also runs urgent hot clinic/fast-track referral clinics for patients more unwell who are in or approaching crisis.
He has set up and is clinical lead for a new innovative acute care of the elderly service (ACE) at Croydon University hospital since working there as a consultant, which won the ‘Team of the Year' award at the annual trust award ceremony during its first operational year. He also won an individual award for ‘Incredible customer service' the following year at the trust annual ceremony awards.
Nima was recently mentioned positively in the national Guardian newspaper for the service that he leads being innovative and meeting the needs of an ageing population.
He is interested in all aspects of elderly care and geriatric syndromes and is happy to do home visits. He is also a Champion of Elderly Care as part of the STFS Specialty Champions Scheme which provides careers advice and guidance; a tutor and examiner in the post-graduate medical examinations; and a qualified coach and mentor within Croydon university hospital.
